"Where's Kaylie?" is the ninth episode in the first season of the ABC drama series Make It or Break It. It is the ninth episode overall, and aired on August 17, in 2009.
Synopsis[]
Carter finally confesses to Kaylie that he cheated, causing her to run away the night before Nationals. When Payson struggles with not being given the top ranking on Beam, Sasha questions her ability to be a leader for The Rock team. Lauren is disappointed when she goes to meet her mother from the bus station and she doesn't show up. In spite of their own problems, Emily, Payson, and Lauren try to track Kaylie down. They find Kaylie at the Gymnastics camp that they went to as kids. Lauren confesses about sleeping with Carter after the party, and Kaylie flips out. Meanwhile, Summer, Kim, Chloe, and Ronnie are having their very own confession. In the end, the girls decide they have to be a team in order to win, and Emily is nominated to be captain. Kaylie tells Lauren that she will be her teammate, but never her friend again.
Plot[]
On the day before leaving for Nationals, Sasha suspends Carter after hearing that he's been secretly dating a girl from the Rock. Kaylie is upset because her dad won't let her see Carter, but is hopeful when her mother sets up a secret meeting between them. When Carter reveals to Kaylie he slept with a girl at the kegger, Kaylie runs off in tears.
Meanwhile, Chloe's ex-boyfriend, Joe shows up, but Chloe kicks him out, saying that she needs to be the mother that Emily and Brian need her to be. Summer finds Lauren's biological mother and Lauren works up the courage to call her. Lauren's mom promises to see her at Nationals, but when Lauren goes to the bus station, her mother doesn't show up which leaves Lauren upset.
Later that evening, Lauren, Payson, & Emily discover that Kaylie has run away. They figure she went to their old gymnastics camp and drives 3 hours to the camp to find Kaylie sitting by the stream. Kaylie tells the girls what Carter did at the kegger and from the look on Lauren's face, it's discovered that Lauren was the one who slept with Carter.
After Kaylie and Lauren have a fight, Emily throws Kaylie's car keys into the stream and Lauren does the same with her keys. Later that night, the girls sit around a campfire, talking and reveal their secrets: Payson confesses to taking cortisone for her back, Lauren reveals that her mother is a drug addict, and Kaylie tells them about her mom & Marty having an affair.
The girls realize that they need to stick together if they're going to make it through Nationals and win. Emily says the keys she threw in the lake were her house keys, not Kaylie's car keys. Lauren says she has a hide-a-key under the bumper of her car. The girls make a promise to support each other, but Kaylie tells Lauren she'll only be her teammate, not her friend.
As the mothers wait for the girls to come back, they reveal their own secrets as well: Ronnie confesses to having an affair with Marty, Chloe admits to feeling like a failure as a mother, and Summer confesses that she told Sasha about Carter having a relationship with a Rock girl, thinking it was Lauren. The next morning, the girls catch their bus to the airport and head off to Nationals.
