Emily Kmetko was a member of the Rocky Mountain Gymnastics Training Center (The Rock). Coach Marty Walsh recruited her to The Rock after seeing her practicing gymnastics at the YMCA in Fresno. In addition to her gymnastics training, she works nights and weekends at The Pizza Shack to help support her family financially. She falls in love with her coworker at The Pizza Shack, Damon Young , an aspiring songwriter. She becomes a member of the National Team and later is chosen for the World's Team, but her career is jeopardized when she is arrested for stealing her brothers medication. She later had sex with her boyfriend, Damon. Following a few weeks later, she broke up with Damon, only for them to get back together a few weeks later. They decide that they are madly in love and decide to get married. Emily quits gymnastics to pursue a life with Damon.
Emily first arrived at The Rock during the first episode. She was immediately congratulated on her skills by Payson Keeler, but was criticized by Lauren Tanner. The girls made an agreement to 'freeze' Emily out, in hopes she would not ruin the current 1-2-3 ranking the Triple Threat had. During the first episode, and through the rest of the series, Lauren is mean to Emily, mainly about her lack of funds for clothing.
Lauren pulls a stunt which could kill Emily during the tryouts for the National Team, she changes the springboard distance for the Vault, which causes Emily to hit the Vault and land on her neck. Emily eventually takes her second Vault, and takes third place instead of Lauren, which angers Lauren to no end.
